Evolve beyond the walls.

We help defense and technology companies turn complex federal opportunities into businesses that scale — with the judgment of leaders who have run the programs, won the contracts, and sat at the board table.

What we do

Senior advisory for the decisions that shape a company's place in the federal market. We work alongside leadership teams, not in place of them.

  • Government relations

Build durable relationships with federal agencies, program offices and policymakers, and understand how decisions are actually made inside them.

  • Federal growth and capture strategy

Decide which programs to pursue, how to position for them, and how to organize business development and capture to win $100M+ opportunities.

  • Government market entry

Bring commercial technology into the federal market: procurement paths, contract vehicles, security requirements, teaming and first wins.

  • M&A and corporate development

Identify and evaluate acquisition targets, prepare companies for sale or divestiture, and realize the full value of each acquisition through structured harmonization with time-phased milestones tied to measurable outcomes.

  • Program performance and turnaround

Keep programs on track with independent, non-advocate reviews before proposal submission and at key milestones. Strengthen stakeholder engagement through TIP’s Voice of the Program (VoP) assessment, and advise on executive selection, organizational structure and leadership alignment. If a program falters, rebuild customer confidence with a credible recovery plan.

  • Executive and board advisory

Advise CEOs, boards and investors on strategy, executive selection, organizational structure and alignment, operations and governance.

Who we work with

  • Mid-to-large technology companies

Established companies, including technology firms, seeking a credible path into the government market.

  • Private-equity owners

Investors who need a credible plan to realize their investment objectives at scale and on schedule.

  • Technology companies entering government

AI, cloud and cyber firms bringing commercial products to federal customers.

  • Early-stage startups

Founders with strong technology who need senior guidance through the defense ecosystem.

How an engagement works

Engagements typically run six to twelve months. Scope is tailored to the challenge and may combine several of our services in focused workstreams. We revisit priorities at key milestones, repeating or adjusting the work as needs evolve. We work with emerging firms as well as small, midsized and large defense companies.

  1. Assess

Review the company's position, customers, pipeline and leadership against the federal market it wants to win.

  2. Decide

Agree on where to compete, what to build or buy, and which opportunities justify the investment.

  3. Organize

Restructure business development and capture, set executive measures, and present the plan to the board.

  4. Execute

Stay alongside management as the plan meets real customers, real competitors and real deadlines.

About alphathread

alphathread was founded on a simple idea: the most valuable thing an advisor brings to a government-focused company is judgment earned at the executive table.

Our founder has spent more than three decades leading large organizations across aerospace, defense, government technology and healthcare — carrying P&L responsibility, winning major federal contracts, guiding acquisitions and divestitures, and serving in board governance roles.
